Fancy Mustache
December 8th, 2008 | by Jeremy |Still unemployed. But I did buy a Canon Vixia HV30 HD camcorder! Because I figured what better thing could I do while unemployed than go into more debt?
Now that I have this camera I decided to use it to create a little skit that I thought of a few days ago. I call it “Fancy Mustache” as part of the “Jeremy Borger is Unemployed” series. The idea behind the series is short skits (2-4 minutes) that only feature me – because I’m unemployed and have nothing else to do. I’m not sure if there will be a second video in the series, but at least you have this crap to enjoy!
(you can also watch a high quality version over on the actual YouTube page… And by “high quality” I mean better resolution. The content will still be lame)
BTW, for all you video geeks out there, here are the settings I used in iMovie 6.0 to export this to a Quicktime movie I uploaded to YouTube… I looked online for the best iMovie settings for high definition, widescreen encoding on YouTube and couldn’t find much. Under Export, I chose QuickTime, Expert Settings. So under QuickTime Movie Options, compression type is H.264, frame rate is current, key frames are automatic, frame reordering is checked, data rate is automatic and it’s optimized for download. The compressor is on Best quality as is encoding (multi-pass).
Then under Size, I set it to 640×360, checked “Preserve aspect ratio using:” and then chose Fit within requirements. Deinterlace Source Video is also selected.
For sound settings, it’s AAC Mono at “Recommended” kHz. Under Advanced Settings, quality is Best, encoding strategy is average bit rate and target bit rate is 96.
The 2:31 movie ended up being a 135 MB .mov file. YouTube’s caps are 10 minutes and 1 GB. I hope this helps someone out there because I had to try a couple of things before coming up with the masterpiece you see above. You’re welcome.

Monty Borger,
Hope that fancy moustache (Note the fancy “u”) didn’t have any gas.
Odd that you couldn’t export 720p … but I’ve only tried iMovie on a MacMini … and it usually crashed.
