30 Rock loves Cleveland

Tonight’s episode of 30 Rock on NBC contained a humorous number of references to Cleveland. Liz, the lead character, was considering moving to Cleveland with her boyfriend, who apparently grew up here. He was commenting about “moving to Lakewood or Shaker Heights. Maybe buying a house on Big Creek Parkway.” Then they actually visit Cleveland and everyone is so happy and friendly. A Cleveland cop invites Liz to pet his horse and Liz has lunch with Little Richard after meeting him at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Then at the end of the show, they even promoted a “Get to Know Cleveland” section on their website, complete with fun facts about Playhouse Square Center, the Terminal Tower and the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo.

A writer on that show has to be from Cleveland, although he must not have been here in a while. At one point in the episode, Jack asks Liz if she had a fun time party hopping in the Flats. Everyone who lives in Cleveland knows that the Flats is dead. For now.

If you missed the episode on TV, you can watch the Cleveland segment online, complete with a song about Cleveland that I’ve never heard before. (they’ll probably put the full episode online soon…)
