October 7th, 2006 | by Jeremy |It’s amazing how our lives fall into place. One circumstance causes another situation and if any of the long string of turning points in our pasts were different, everything could change. If one relationship I had 12 years ago didn’t happen, I might not live where I live, work where I work or be friends with who I’m friends with. And many times we don’t even know how different our lives could have been if one small thing changed.
It’s true with the painful situations as well. I’ve gone through a lot of crap in the past, but without it, my life would be totally different than it is today. Better? Worse? I don’t know. But different. And despite the fact that I may needlessly complain about certain things in my life now and then, overall, things are good and I should be thankful for that.
Some of our choices we make on our own and some of the turns along the path of our lives we have no control over. Many times we base our choices around a certain goal or destination that we want our path to lead to. But often we think we’re heading for that goal when we’re not. Or the path will turn and force us to go somewhere we don’t want to go. And we realize that path was better all along.
I used to think I have a lot more control over my life than I do. I thought I knew what I wanted and how to get there. But I don’t. And that’s a freeing thought because it takes a lot of pressure off. I don’t have to pretend to be right all the time and I don’t have to be afraid to fail.
And that makes the journey all the more interesting.
And now a picture of the candy corn sitting on my living room table…
