So last night I’m at Brasa Brazilian Steakhouse, o…
March 25th, 2006 | by Jeremy |So last night I’m at Brasa Brazilian Steakhouse, one of my favorite restaurants. As I’m walking to my table with a plate full of food, I suddenly have some weird spasm on the left side of my back, about half way down. I don’t want to look like a fool by dropping my plate and screaming out in pain, so I try to shake it off as best I can and make it back to my table.
It was painful in certain positions if I moved, but if I stayed still, it wasn’t that bad. After dinner, I walked back to my condo with some friends and at points I’d have to stop walking to try and stretch it out. After my friends left, I told myself that it was at times like this that I wish I had a girlfriend to massage my back, because that’s what it felt like I needed — just a good, deep muscle massage to try and unkink the muscle.
I laid down to go to bed at 11pm since I’d hadn’t been feeling well all week. Sinus congestion and stuff. As I’m laying there, I thought to myself, “What if I lay here all night and tomorrow morning my back is completely locked up?”
Well, of course! At midnight I got up to go to the bathroom and could barely barely move. I stood up at one point but the pain forced me to sit back down on the bed. I couldn’t get out of bed! I didn’t know what to do, so I called my mom (who’s a nurse) at about 12:30am to tell her the story. (I was able to get to my cell phone) She told me to try and relax the muscle, which is easier said than done.
Eventually, I just called 911 and the paramedics came out. I’m not the type of guy who normally calls 911 and being wheeled out of my condo and into the Warehouse District at 1:30am on a Friday night was not my idea of a good time, but I had to have someone look at my back.
My parents followed the ambulance to Lutheran Hospital, which was nice of them. Laying in a hospital bed for hours by yourself isn’t fun. They ran some tests to make sure it wasn’t my kidneys (which I never thought it was) and then finally discharged me at about 5:30am with a prescription for some muscle relaxors.
I came to my parents’ house because I didn’t want to be alone at my place and suddenly have my back lock up again. It still hurts, but I have much more movement than I did before. Ugh. Just a crappy week with being sick and now being partically crippled….
At least I have computer access.

Have you ever thought about shrinking the size of your head (http://www.jeremyborger.com/blog/2006/02/hey-im-blogging-live-from-apple-store), that can’t be any good for your back.
