I got a condo downtown!

After going back in forth in my head about buying/renting, I decided to buy. Renting wasn’t as cheap as I thought. I couldn’t find a decent rental in The Bingham for under $900/month. The “$775/month” units must be underground in a storage area or something. Plus, parking ISN’T included AND they don’t offer Adelphia cable! Well, I work for Adelphia and get cable and Internet for free, so I’m not paying for Dish… Blah.

I also looked at some apartments on East 4th Street in the Commercial Building. Nice place. East 4th is cool right now, but I really think it will reach a new level in a couple of years. Right now there’s too many empty storefronts and it needs more development. The founders of Gameworks are putting in an upscale martini bar/bowling alley/restaurant called Corner Alley where Wendy’s used to be. House of Blues is great, though, and I love Pickwick and Frolic.

I had my mind set on this condo in the Grand Arcade and every time I thought about living somewhere else, it made me want that condo more. Even if it’s gonna cost me a little more than I was hoping to pay, I’ll stretch myself for the first few months as I reorganize my budget and hopefully start making more in commissions…

So, I settled on that unit for $139,900. The seller is going to pay some of the closing costs and I’m going to roll the rest into the price of the loan so I can buy some things with the little bit of money I saved. Like furniture, of which I have none. Ok, I have a bed, a TV stand and a bookshelf. Other than that… Well, I’m gonna have a lot of space the first few months!

BTW, if you’re looking for camping supplies, check out my roommate’s company, Great Lakes Unlimited.

I was planning a “pre-game” for St. Patrick’s Day, but I don’t know if I’ll have any furniture by then.

Then again, maybe that’s a good thing. No furniture means nothing for Jon to dump hot wax all over.
