I will not let myself
Cause my heart so much misery
I will not break the way you did,
You fell so hard
I’ve learned the hard way
To never let it get that far
Because of you I never stray too far from the sidewalk
Because of you I learned to play on the safe side so I don’t get hurt
Because of you I find it hard to trust not only me, but everyone around me
Because of you I am afraid
I lose my way and it’s not too long before you point it out
I cannot cry because you know that’s weakness in your eyes
I’m forced to fake a smile, a laugh everyday of my life
My heart can’t possibly break when it wasn’t even whole to start with
I watched you die
I heard you cry every night in your sleep
I was so young
You should have known better than to lean on me
You never thought of anyone else
You just saw your pain and now I cry in the middle of the night
For the same damn thing

Impressive poetry by a great poet, seldom do I read piercing heart felt words that penetrate your heart and settle into it without invitation such as this one. It is very touching and affecting to read such words as they are not just words; they are the translation of the heart pain into a poem. But, to be strong, a person cannot be afraid, life is tough and often unfair, and we have to fight our battles to be strong. You cannot be afraid and let fear take over your life. You can avoid making the same mistakes, but eventually, you will make mistakes and you will ache and learn and be stronger. Life will make a person tumble and fall, but only the strong will rises up again.
Each of us has to stand up for his/her principles in order to live our lives and not hide behind the bushes or under the trees. Make mistakes, but do learn; play on the safe side, but don’t give up your principles; if you fall, do get up; trust, but not everyone and mainly, trust in you and trust in the Lord; cry, but don’t let your foes see your tears; never be afraid, but daring; be proud and never ashamed for you were not born to be ashamed.
